Gan Kim Yong visits Punggol Coast Hawker Centre after Shaping Hearts exhibition launch
After launching the Shaping Hearts festival at Punggol Digital District on Sunday (13 Sept), Deputy Prime Minister and Punggol GRC MP Gan Kim Yong did what any foodie in the area might have done: stopped by Punggol Coast Hawker Centre for lunch.
In an Instagram post, Mr Gan shared that he was grabbing a bite there before heading to his next event.
The accompanying photo shows him smiling at the camera while enjoying a plate of kway chap.

He also encouraged members of the public to visit Shaping Hearts, which runs until 27 Sept, to explore works by artists of different abilities and take part in the activities on offer.
Netizens praise Gan Kim Yong for outfit
The post has since caught the attention of netizens, though not necessarily for the exhibition or his lunch.
One commenter remarked that Mr Gan looked “so young” and said he should wear a T-shirt more often.

Gan Kim Yong gets hands-on at Shaping Hearts
Mr Gan did more than just show up for the launch, as a video from the event showed him getting involved in several of the activities on offer.
At one station, he took on a guessing game where participants had to reach into a box, feel an object, and figure out what it was.

There was an added twist: instead of saying the answer out loud, he had to describe it without words.
After detecting a duck keyring, Mr Gan gamely flapped his arms like wings to act out his guess.

He also caught live performances, mingled with members of the public, and toured the booths and artworks with North East District Mayor Baey Yam Keng.
Along the way, Mr Gan even tried his hand at some of the festival’s craft activities, getting a taste of the interactive experiences visitors can try for themselves.

Shaping Hearts is an inclusive arts initiative that showcases works by artists with disabilities and aims to give them greater opportunities to share their creativity with the public.
The 2026 edition invites visitors to experience art through sight, sound, touch, and movement, with immersive zones centred on rhythm, texture, visual art, and interactive play, alongside workshops and live performances.
The festival officially launched at Punggol Digital District on 13 Sept, with its exhibition and programmes giving visitors a chance to engage with participating artists and their works.
