Singapore Gyms & Sports Halls To Limit Number Of Visitors As Part Of Covid-19 Containment Efforts
On 13 Mar, the Ministry of Health (MOH) announced social distancing plans in public spaces such as eateries and entertainment facilities.
Heeding their advice, Sports Singapore (SportSG) will be introducing more stringent Covid-19 containment measures in sports halls, stadiums, gyms, and swimming pools.
Besides limiting visitors and implementing temperature screenings, Singapore is also closing down children’s pools.
The changes will take effect from today (16 Mar), according to The Straits Times (ST).
ActiveSG implements social distancing
To ensure the safety of Singaporeans, all ActiveSG spaces will be restricting those who are ill from entering areas such as studios and gyms.
Furthermore, representatives also express the need for social distancing and more frequent wiping down of equipment.
Particularly in gyms, ActiveSG will be limiting the number of visitors. Queue numbers might be given out if gyms are packed.
Similarly, sports halls for activities such as badminton and table tennis are also regulating visitor access.
Only alternating courts will be available for bookings, meaning that there’ll be fewer chances of securing a court now, reports ST.
ActiveSG will be cancelling certain bookings and refunding customers the full amount.
Though inconvenient, this will facilitate physical distancing and minimise contact between Singaporeans without compromising everyday life.
Squash and tennis court bookings will not be affected.
Social distancing on running tracks
ActiveSG’s main swimming pools remain open to the public, though visitors will need to have their temperatures taken and declare their personal details.
Pools for children will however be closed. Meanwhile, runners using tracks at stadiums must also maintain significant distances between them.

Necessary measures to protect public safety
For those who have already paid deposits, ActiveSG assures that refunds are on the way if they cancelled your bookings.
Hence, you do not need to bear any costs with the implementation of these new measures.
Though such precautions might be potentially inconvenient for those who frequent ActiveSG facilities, they are absolutely necessary in light of recent Covid-19 developments.
Do remain cooperative and refrain from visiting sporting venues if you are sick.
