‘Never seen it so bad before’: Redditors post shocking before-and-after photos of Singapore during 14 Oct haze
Recent photos on Reddit showing the before-and-after of the haze in Singapore shocked netizens with the stark difference.
The visibility was so low in the shots that some thought the pictures had not loaded.
Haze shrouds Singapore skyline from view in photos
On 14 Oct, user ‘xdavestrix’ on the Singapore subreddit posted a photo of Singapore’s famous skyline from St John’s Island, taken back in Oct 2024.

Earlier that day, the 28-year-old engineer had gone to the island again for work purposes. They snapped a photo from the same position, with an astonishing contrast.
“Singapore’s skyline totally disappeared from view, can’t even see anything from here,” they wrote. “It’s like I just entered Silent Hill.”

In both photos, a red buoy off the coast could be seen to confirm the locations were the same.
Yet, the ‘after’ photo was a grey wall of haze which blocked off any glimpse of Singapore’s buildings.
Netizens thought before-and-after photos were still loading
‘xdavestrix’ told MS News that they expected it to be hazy that day, but the spike in severity was “unexpected”.
Other commenters evidently felt the same, with one writing, “Holy shit, I legit thought the pic was loading.”

Another user said that the buoy being the only thing visible showed how ‘jialat‘ the haze situation was.

One commenter succinctly wrote, “I’ve forgotten what clouds look like.”
Luckily, the OP told MS News that they usually work indoors and were thus mostly unaffected by the haze.
Second netizen says they have never seen haze this bad
Later on 14 Oct, user ‘remyworldpeace’ also posted a before-and-after shot from the top of an HDB flat in Dawson.
The ‘before’ photo, taken in June, showed forests and buildings alike and even caught Johor’s Mount Pulai about 45km away.

In contrast, the ‘after’ photo was practically a wall of light grey with few visible features.
“I’ve never seen it so bad before; in no direction can you see any regular landmarks,” the OP wrote.
The visibility was so poor that one commenter even assumed the right side of the image failed to load properly.

Also on the same day, Reddit user ‘xianzx’ posted a third comparison, snapped in Raffles Place a year apart.
