Japanese woman robbed of S$2,400 in Hong Kong after inviting man to her hotel room
A 19-year-old Japanese tourist was allegedly attacked and robbed inside her hotel room in Hong Kong’s Tsim Sha Tsui on Monday night (10 Aug).
The man allegedly fled with about HK$15,000 (S$2,400) in cash after grabbing the woman by the neck.

The incident happened at about 9.35pm at a hotel along Nathan Road, where the woman reportedly opened her room door after hearing someone knock or ring the doorbell.
The man then allegedly rushed inside, put her in a chokehold, and fled with the cash.

The victim suffered neck pain following the incident. She was examined at the scene but declined to be taken to hospital.
Suspect allegedly met victim through WeChat
Local media later reported that the woman had been travelling alone in Hong Kong and had been staying at the hotel since 4 Aug.
She reportedly met the man through WeChat on 10 Aug and invited him to her hotel room to meet and chat.

The man allegedly saw her place HK$15,000 in cash inside the hotel safe before putting a black plastic bag over her head and grabbing her by the neck.
He then took the cash from the safe and fled, after which the woman called the police for help.
Police searching for suspect
Police have classified the case as robbery following a preliminary investigation and are searching for a Chinese man aged between 30 and 40.
The suspect is reportedly about 1.75m tall and of medium build.
He was said to be wearing a dark long-sleeved top, dark trousers, a white cap, and a white face mask at the time.
Officers searched the area following the incident but were unable to locate him.
No arrests had been made at the time of reporting.
