Johor Immigration To Close For 2 Hours At Night On 18 Dec For Annual Evacuation Exercise

Travellers Advised To Use Tuas Checkpoint During Johor Immigration Closure

If you plan to enter or return from Johor Bahru (JB) on Wednesday (18 Dec) night via the Woodlands Checkpoint, here’s something to take note of.

From 10pm-12am, the Sultan Iskandar Building – which houses the customs, immigration and quarantine (CIQ) complex – and the JB Sentral Bus Terminal will be closed for an evacuation exercise.

2-hour exercise will prepare authorities for emergency situations

Various government and private agencies will participate in the 2-hour exercise, according to announcement by the Johor Immigration Department of Malaysia.

Conducted yearly since 2011, the exercise aims to prepare the relevant authorities for emergency scenarios like “earthquakes, chemical spills, bomb threats, threats, terrorist attacks, and biochemical attacks”.

Last year’s edition of the exercise also happened around this time of the year and lasted from 12-3am.

This year’s exercise, however, is happening much earlier and is likely to affect more travellers.

Use Tuas Checkpoint instead

Those planning on travelling via the Woodlands Causeway during the affected hours are advised to revise their plans.

Particularly, the Malaysian authorities urged travellers to use the Tuas Checkpoint during the affected period.

If you’re one of those who will be affected by the closure, do plan your journey accordingly or risk getting stuck in a massive jam.
