Malaysia’s Third Covid-19 Death Is A 58-Year-Old Man Linked To KL Mosque Gathering
Malaysia reported its 3rd Covid-19 death on Friday (20 Mar).
On the same day, 130 new cases of the new coronavirus were reported, bringing the tally to 1,030.
Deceased was admitted to hospital on 9 Mar
According to Channel NewsAsia (CNA), the deceased is a 58-year-old Malaysian man who attended the religious gathering at Sri Petaling Mosque from 27 Feb-1 Mar.
The man was admitted to Tawau Hospital last Monday (9 Mar) with “respiratory infection symptoms”.
His condition took a turn for the worse and he succumbed to the infection today (20 Mar) at around 6.30pm.
This is the 3rd Covid-19 death recorded in the country.
130 new cases reported on 20 Mar brings tally to 1,030
On the same day, Malaysia reported 130 new cases, bringing the national tally to 1,030.
Of the 130, 48 of are linked to the religious gathering at Sri Petaling Mosque.
To date, more than half of the total number of cases in Malaysia are linked to the religious event attended by around 16,000 people.
15 healthcare workers have also contracted the infectious disease, reports The Straits Times.
Military might be called in if Malaysians do not comply to restriction order
Earlier today, it was reported that the Malaysian government might be calling upon its military to help ensure that its population is complying with the Restriction of Movement Order (RMO) implemented till 31 Mar.
It remains unclear if the military will be called in. However, Malaysian Senior Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob said yesterday (19 Mar) that if compliance hovers around 60-70%, it was “highly likely the army will be deployed”.
