Commemorative Licence Plates Will Earn Government Up To RM20 Million

There’s been lots of talk online about how the new Malaysian is going to pay for its ambitious social welfare programmes.

And now, Dr Mahathir‘s team finally has some answers.

Riding on a wave of patriotism that has swept over Malaysia since last month’s General Election, his administration has announced special “Malaysia” number plates.

These will be released in time for Malaysia’s independence day on 31 August.

Transport minister Anthony Loke said the licence plates would be up for bidding between 2 and 16 July.

He adds that the special plates could fetch more than RM20 million (S$6.72 million) for the government.
