Man allegedly converts images of young girls into nude photos using AI
A 32-year-old man in Japan was arrested for allegedly using generative artificial intelligence (AI) to create nude images of female students and sharing them online.
The victims reportedly include three 18-year-old female high school students and a 12-year-old junior high school girl.
Edited nude images by request
Kenta Imoto, a company employee from Himeji City, Hyogo Prefecture, was arrested on suspicion of defamation and violating Japan’s Act on Prohibition of Child Prostitution and Child Pornography, according to local media reports.
Investigators said Imoto was allegedly asked in February by a 17-year-old boy whom he met on social media to sexually alter images of the 12-year-old girl.

The original images were reportedly taken during school sports festivals and track-and-field events.
After receiving the request, Imoto completed the image alterations and posted them on social media within approximately three days, NHK reported.
Shared them in social media community with over 1,000 members
The altered images were allegedly shared in a social media community with more than 1,000 members.
Police said the online group also contained sexually altered images of female athletes ranging from elementary school to university students.

Imoto has reportedly admitted to the allegations, telling investigators that he was pleased when others reacted positively to the AI-altered images.
During questioning, he said he used a paid generative AI tool to alter approximately 300 images of women in their teens and 20s, and posted between 100 and 200 of them online.
17-year-old boy also referred to prosecutors
Police also referred the 17-year-old high school boy who commissioned Imoto to prosecutors on suspicion of violating the Child Pornography Prohibition Act and other charges.
He allegedly posted images on social media with messages such as, “I collected photos of junior high school girls. Please process these,” to commission the image alterations.
Investigations into the case are ongoing as police believe Imoto had responded to many other requests.
