Man murders mother’s boyfriend after repeated arguments

A 29-year-old man in Thailand allegedly stabbed his mother’s boyfriend multiple times before shooting him with the victim’s own handgun during a street fight in Songkhla on Monday (10 Aug) evening.

The suspect, Peerapol Phetkaew, turned himself in the next morning and handed police a knife and gun he allegedly used in the attack.

Police found victim with stab and gunshot wounds

The incident happened at about 8.35pm outside a house on Klinprapai Road in Khao Rup Chang, Muang Songkhla district.

Police found the victim, 53-year-old Winai Hirankul, lying dead on the street.

He had suffered multiple stab wounds and gunshot injuries.

He then allegedly took the victim’s .38 calibre handgun from his waistband and fired three or four shots before escaping.

According to Hatyai Focus, there was no one at home on the morning after the incident, and bloodstains, broken glass and debris from a damaged beauty salon door remained scattered in the front yard.

Suspect and victim had argued several times before

According to Bangkok Post, relatives told police that Mr Winai had been in a relationship with Peerapol’s mother, who works as a hairdresser, for some time.

The relationship reportedly caused tension between the two men, who had argued several times before the fatal confrontation.

Peerapol allegedly worried that his mother would spend less time caring for their home and family due to their relationship.

Relatives claimed they saw Peerapol sitting and sharpening a knife earlier on the day of the incident.

When Mr Winai arrived at the house, Peerapol emerged on a motorcycle with a friend.

The two men then got into an argument that escalated into a physical fight.

Suspect later turned himself in with weapons

On Tuesday (11 Aug) morning, Peerapol surrendered to the investigative team at Mueang Songkhla Police Station, handing over both the knife and the firearm used in the crime.

During questioning, he stated that he did not normally live at the residence because his mother preferred he stay elsewhere.

Consequently, he lived with friends and supported himself by working as a delivery rider.

On the day of the event, he returned to the house to retrieve some personal belongings, encountered Mr Winai and had an argument with him.

Peerapol claimed the victim moved to draw his firearm, so he acted in self-defence by grabbing a knife kept in his motorcycle and stabbing him.

Suspect said he would not apologise to his mother

Peerapol said he would not apologise to his mother, CH7 News reported.

However, he expressed regret over the outcome, claiming he never wished to get involved in brawls.

Police have initially charged Peerapol with intentional murder and violations of the Firearms Act.

The suspect, who remains in police custody, will then be taken to conduct a crime scene reenactment as part of his confession.
