Melissa launches first sneaker line in Singapore, with shoes priced from S$99
Melissa may be best known for its whimsical designs and glossy jelly finish, but the Brazilian footwear brand is now stepping into new territory with its first dedicated sneaker line.
Dubbed Melissa X, the collection arrived in Singapore on 19 Aug with four adult styles, plus matching options for kids and babies.
So if coordinating outfits with your mini-me is your thing, you may want to start making space on the shoe rack at home.
Sneakers bring Melissa’s signature playfulness to athleisure
The debut Melissa X collection comes in four adult styles: Beat, Rush, Loop, and Bend.
While the range taps into athleisure’s sporty-chic look, it’s also designed with everyday comfort in mind.
Rather than relying solely on Melflex, the flexible PVC-based material behind Melissa’s signature jelly look, the sneakers mix textile uppers with PVC and other materials for a more traditional sneaker construction.
Even so, glossy, jelly-like details still make an appearance, keeping the collection recognisably Melissa.
Choose from four different styles
There’s plenty of variety to suit different styles and preferences.
Bend is the sleekest of the lot, with a close-fitting retro shape that gives almost ballet flat energy.
Meanwhile, bold colours and the option to weave in contrasting laces keep it eye-catching.
At the other end of the spectrum, Rush really commits to the chunky sneaker look.
The oversized, futuristic sole and mix of textures makes it the boldest option in the line-up.
Loop is still chunky, but leans more into a running-shoe vibe with its sporty shape and sculptural sole, while pairing easily with relaxed streetwear.
Then there’s Beat, which looks like the most versatile everyday option, blending sporty and off-duty street style in a way that works with everything from jeans and shorts to dresses.
If you’re the type who likes making your sneakers feel a little more you, there’s also plenty of room to play with different coloured or textured laces, or add a few shoelace charms for extra personality.
The Beat and Bend are priced at S$139, while the Loop costs S$169 and the Rush S$199.
Mums and little ones can twin in matching Melissa X Beat sneakers
The cutest part of the drop is arguably the Melissa X Beat’s kids’ and baby versions.
The Mini Melissa X Beat Kids keeps the same sporty look in a lighter, kid-friendly build, using Melflex and EVA for a soft, flexible feel that can keep up with little ones who are always on the move, from outings to full-on playtime.
For even smaller feet, the Mini Melissa X Beat Baby combines flexible Melflex with breathable fabric, plus an anti-slip sole and Velcro fastening for extra stability and a secure fit as little ones crawl, toddle, and take their first steps.
So if you’ve ever wanted to commit fully to the mum-and-mini-me aesthetic, this is your chance to coordinate right down to your shoes.
The Mini Melissa X Beat Kids is priced at S$119, while the baby version costs S$99.
If you’re wondering whether there are more sneakers in the pipeline, Melissa X looks set to be more than a one-off experiment for the jelly-shoe specialist.
According to the brand, sneakers will become a recurring category in its footwear portfolio, following market research that identified growing demand in the women’s sneaker segment.
