2 men arrested for trespassing allegedly used invalid F1 tickets

Two men were arrested on Friday (9 Oct) afternoon for allegedly trespassing into the Formula 1 (F1) Singapore Grand Prix event area.

One of them had allegedly entered a restricted area for staff and performing artistes, said the Singapore Police Force (SPF) in a news release on Saturday (10 Oct) that was seen by MS News.

2 men try to enter F1 area without valid tickets, 1 denied entry

At about 1.45pm on Friday, the two men had allegedly tried to enter an F1 event area along Temasek Avenue, according to preliminary investigations.

They did not have valid tickets.

One of the men, aged 35, was not allowed to enter when his ticket was found to be invalid.

Man enters F1 area with invalid ticket, detained by staff

The other man, aged 39, managed to enter the event area despite his ticket not being valid.

Later, he entered without permission into a restricted area meant for staff and performing artistes.

He was eventually found and detained by F1 staff within the event area along Republic Boulevard.

Police arrest both men for trespassing

SPF, which received a report about the 39-year-old man’s detention at about 3pm, subsequently arrested him and found invalid tickets on him.

The 35-year-old man was later arrested along Temasek Boulevard.

Both men are known to each other, SPF said.

39-year-0ld man charged with trespassing

On Saturday, the 39-year-old man was charged in court with two counts of criminal trespass under Section 447 of the Penal Code 1871.

If convicted, he faces up to three months in prison and/or a fine of up to S$1,500.

The 35-year-old man is currently under investigation.

SPF takes ‘serious view’ of unauthorised entry at major events

SPF said it takes a “serious view” of unauthorised entry into restricted areas at major events, warning that offenders will be dealt with “firmly” in accordance with the law.

Such acts may compromise the safety and security of the event, it added.

Members of the public are advised to comply with all access-control measures by event organisers.

They should enter only areas for which they have valid authorisation, the police added.
