NParks Taking Steps To Address Crow Attacks In Bishan
You may have heard of the recent crow attacks taking place in Bishan.

With regards to this issue, NParks is currently working together with Bishan-Toa Payoh Town Council to alleviate the problem.
In light of the incidents, the statutory board is taking steps to prune trees and trap these crows.
NParks plans to trap crows in Bishan
Over the past week, many residents in Bishan have allegedly been experiencing attacks from crows in the area near Block 110 Bishan Street 12.

According to a media statement from NParks, their team has been keeping watch of the area for crows’ nests since 7 Feb.
Since then, they have started to remove the birds by pruning the trees and trapping the crows. NParks will also use euthanasia to manage the crow population.
Quoting Dr Adrian Loo, NParks’ group director of wildlife management, he noted that NParks uses “internationally accepted and science-based standards when choosing suitable depopulation methods”.
Such methods include removing the crows’ sources of food to make the environment less plausible for them to survive in.
He ascertained that the crows will not be shot down like they did in the past.
According to the Straits Times (ST), in 2020, crows were shot dead near Block 642 Desker Road after complaints of attacks.
Public can do their part to chase away these crows
ST also reported that on Wednesday (16 Feb), NParks collaborated with Bishan-Toa Payoh Town Council in an outreach programme. They helped to hang up posters in lifts, and also carried out home visits where they warned the residents against feeding the crows.
Furthermore, NParks also conducts estate-wide crow nest surveys monthly and works with town councils to remove these nests regularly. This is so that they can hopefully prevent such similar crow attacks from occurring again.
Dr Loo mentioned that, “The public can help to mitigate population growth and congregation issues by not feeding birds and disposing of food scraps properly.”
