25-year-old man found dead at NTU Hall 13, police do not suspect foul play

Students report Hall 13 area cordoned off, authorities say 25-year-old man found motionless and pronounced dead

A 25-year-old man was found motionless at Nanyang Technological University’s (NTU) Hall 13 on Monday night (31 Aug) and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Singapore Police Force (SPF) told MS News that it received a call for assistance at around 11pm at 32 Nanyang Crescent, the address of Hall 13.

A Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) paramedic pronounced the man dead at the scene.

Police said preliminary investigations do not suggest foul play. Investigations are ongoing.

The incident has since prompted discussion among NTU students, with some reporting that emergency responders were present at the hall.

SCDF fire engine seen at Hall 13 on Monday night

An NTU student told MS News that information about a student having reportedly died at Hall 13 had circulated on Reddit.

The student said they had not personally verified the circumstances or cause of death.

They also said they personally saw and photographed an SCDF fire engine at Hall 13 at around 11.18pm on 31 Aug.

Other students on Reddit reportedly shared accounts of seeing police officers, paramedics and a cordoned-off area at the hall.

SCDF confirmed that it received a call for assistance at 32 Nanyang Crescent at about 11pm on 31 Aug.

“A person was pronounced dead at the scene by an SCDF paramedic,” SCDF told MS News.

Resident says area was cordoned off the following evening

A Hall 13 resident also told MS News that they saw an area cordoned off with tape on 1 Sept.

The resident said their room overlooks the location where the incident allegedly took place.

They said they saw medics and police officers around the cordoned-off area but could not see inside the room from their vantage point.

The resident said they only noticed that the area was blocked off at around 5pm to 6pm on 1 Sept.

Police do not suspect foul play

SPF said the man was found lying motionless at 32 Nanyang Crescent at around 11pm on 31 Aug.

An SCDF paramedic pronounced him dead at the scene.

“Based on preliminary investigations, the Police do not suspect foul play,” the SPF told MS News.

Police investigations are ongoing.
