Police Officer Was Attacked 3 Times By Hostile Man With Knuckle Duster At Clarke Quay On 1 Dec
Police officers in Singapore often go unappreciated for their hard work.
In an interview with The New Paper, a full-time police sergeant shed light on some of the things cops have to face, even while they are off duty.
One such instance include having to bring a hostile man wielding a knuckle duster under control while he was off-duty.
Attempted to calm man wielding knuckle duster down
In the wee hours of the morning on 1 Dec, Sgt Pang was waiting for a cab home near Riverside Point when he spotted a man wielding a knuckle duster chasing down a group of people.

Worried that someone might get hurt, Sgt Pang approached the man, which appeared to be intoxicated and was hurling vulgarities.
Despite efforts to calm him down, the man got more agitated and even threatened to punch Sgt Pang.
Police officer kena punched in the face
Upon hearing the threats, Sgt Pang shouted for passers-by to call the police. Just as Sgt Pang was doing that, he was punched twice in the face.
Even though the man’s metal duster landed clean on Sgt Pang’s left cheek, the impact of the punch was reduced as the police officer managed to block the man’s attack with his arms.
After punching Sgt Pang, the assailant tried to walk away, but Sgt Pang managed to tail him for a few metres despite his injuries.
Called 999 and kena punched again
In the midst of tailing the aggressor, Sgt Pang whipped out his phone and dialled 999.

However, the man heard his conversation over the phone and punched Sgt Pang for the third time, above his right ear.
That was the last straw for Sgt Pang. He subsequently identified himself as a police officer and pinned him to the ground.
Back-up arrives quickly for police sergeant
About 3 minutes after subduing the assailant, backup arrived to arrest the culprit.
When asked about the incident, Sgt Pang shared that he was only able to subdue the man in spite of his nervousness as he had gone through defence tactics training.

Investigations are ongoing
The authorities are currently investigating the incident.
The man, for possessing a scheduled weapon, may receive a jail term of up to 5 years.
Kudos to Sgt Pang for taking the correct actions and bringing the perpetrator to justice despite it being his off day.
