Singapore netizen says property agent flyers are a ‘waste of paper’, calls for government action
A Singapore resident became greatly annoyed at the barrage of property agent flyers they received all the time.
They complained that it was a “waste of paper” as almost everyone throws these flyers away.
Resident annoyed by property agent flyers flooding mailbox weekly
Several netizens agreed, discussing whether they should be banned.
On Sunday (13 Sept), the Original Poster (OP), identified as “Stegles”, shared a post on the r/singapore subreddit.
The caption read: “Property agents…why?”
They showed a pile of at least six flyers that they had received in just one week.

The OP told MS News that they found these flyers in their mailbox.
“Get a mailbox full of these with maybe one actual letter in it, see them littered all over the lobby and the bin full of them,” they complained.
Occasionally, the flyers would show up stuffed into the unit’s gate, which annoyed them even more.
Calls for government action against physical flyer spam
The OP even claimed that they had received 10 to 12 property agent flyers in a single week at the peak, alongside other advertising.
They’re just a waste of paper that 99% end up as trash.
In the post, they questioned whether property agents feel ashamed for “creating so much waste” and supporting an industry for printing “garbage”.
The OP told MS News that the government should take action about the excessive flyers.

“We have the spam act for digital marketing of unsolicited mail, but why is there nothing for physical mail?” they asked.
The OP even suggested having a recycling machine next to mailboxes to feed the flyers into. The machine would ‘scan’ the flyers and send a bill or fine to the biggest “spammers” each month.
Currently, flyers are not allowed to be left “improperly”, such as at gates, doors and common areas of HDB estates.
Distribution in mailboxes is still acceptable.

Another agreed that property agents should be fined for “spamming rubbish”.

Others tried providing an explanation for the flood of property agent flyers.
They claimed that agents would only need one “hit” to make the cost of the flyers worth it.

The OP told MS News that they would just toss the flyers without a second thought.
However, several other users said that they were also useful as trash receptacles for fish bones or nut shells.
