Australia Engaging With SAF After They Offer Military Support For Bushfire Crisis

Bushfires in Australia have burnt more than 60,000 sq km of land. More than 20 people and almost half a billion animals have reportedly been killed in the crisis.

On 5 Jan, Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison said that the Australian Defence Force (ADF) was “engaging with the Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) and the New Zealand Defence Force” after offers of support from both countries, reports Channel NewsAsia.

Mr Morrison revealed that both the New Zealand Defence Force and the SAF had offered military support.

Australia and Singapore are currently working together to see what measures they can take to mitigate the crisis.

Aussie PM called on army reservists

The situation in Australia has gotten bad enough that army reservists have been deployed.

Mr Morrison issued a call-up of army reservists to assist the firefighters, which has never been done before.

Mr Morrison asserted that the call-up was because the crisis had escalated to another level.

That step was taken as a consequence of the sheer scale that had moved beyond what is the reasonable expectation of any agency…

Australian firefighters who are putting their lives at risk to put the bushfires out have been criticising the PM for his management of the crisis, reports CNA.
