South Korea Confirms 142 New Covid-19 Cases & 2nd Death Linked To Coronavirus

92 Of New Cases In South Korea Linked To A Hospital In Cheongdo

In recent days, South Korea has seen a surge in Covid-19 cases that saw them emerge as the nation with the most number of infected individuals outside of mainland China.

Sadly, the trend is showing no sign of slowing down.

On Saturday (22 Feb) morning, South Korea reported 142 more cases of Covid-19, bringing the nation’s tally to 346.

Came just a day after South Korea reported 100 cases in a day

The sharp increase in cases came just 1 day after the country announced 100 cases on Friday (21 Feb). A significant amount of these patients were linked to a church in the Southern city of Daegu.

Of the 142 new cases today, 92 are linked to a hospital in Cheongdo, located roughly 25km away from Daegu.

The hospital in question is the same one where a Covid-19 patient had died previously. 15 other patients and staff have also contracted the virus, as of Thursday (20 Feb), sparking fears that it could emerge as another Covid-19 cluster in the country.

In addition to the new cases, a 54-year-old woman has also succumbed to the virus.

This marks the 2nd Covid-19 related death in the country.

Hope Korean authorities are doing their best to contain Covid-19

The drastic increase in Covid-19 cases in South Korea is truly worrying. We hope the authorities are doing all they can to curb the spread of the virus.

This only goes to show how infectious Covid-19 is and serves as a reminder as to how we should exercise social responsibility by wearing a mask if we’re feeling unwell and to seek medical help immediately when that happens.

Finally, MS News would like to extend our heartfelt condolences to the family and friends of the deceased. May she rest in peace.
