Taxi Driver, 58, Suffered Fatal Burns To His Body, Was Found On The Road Outside The Taxi
A taxi driver died as his vehicle was engulfed by fire early on Tuesday (31 Mar) morning.
The police received word of the blaze on Seletar West Link at around 1.30am.
Photos — allegedly of the incident — posted on SG Road Vigilante’s Facebook page, show the driver’s seat of the taxi completely engulfed by flames.
Driver unresponsive, pronounced dead on-site
The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) responded by extinguishing the fire with two water jets, reported TODAY Online.
But the driver, a 58-year-old man, was found unresponsive, and he was pronounced dead on-site.
One graphic photo showed a person, presumably the driver, lying on the ground beside the taxi.
The body was later covered with a white sheet.
ComfortDelGro expresses sadness in statement
ComfortDelGro said in a statement from its group chief corporate communications officer Tammy Tan, quoted by TODAY, that the cabby was lying outside his vehicle, with burns on his body.
She also said the company was saddened by his death, adding:
Very little is known about the incident at this time and the exact cause of the fire is still unknown.
The vehicle was 3.5 years old, and no problems were found when it was serviced on 19 Mar, she noted.
Police investigations ongoing
The police are currently investigating the incident.
