Wall collapses during university admission celebration banquet in China, killing five
What was supposed to be a joyous celebration turned tragic when a wall collapsed during a university admission celebration banquet in China’s Sichuan Province.
The incident, which killed five people and injured 17 others, occurred on Tuesday (18 Aug).
Viral footage circulating online shows the aftermath of the tragedy, with emergency personnel at the scene and people rushing to help those who had been injured.

17 injured after wall collapses during banquet
According to local news reports, a villager in Changning County, Yibin, was holding a banquet in their courtyard to celebrate their child’s university admission at about 5.30pm.
During the banquet, too much rainwater accumulated on a temporary canopy.
The resulting tension on the ropes securing the canopy caused a parapet wall on the first-floor roof, which the ropes had been anchored to, to collapse.
