Man in wheelchair crosses road during green light, driver in Sembawang jams on brakes to avoid collision
A driver recently had to slam on the brakes when they spotted a man in a wheelchair crossing a road in Sembawang during the green light.
Luckily, the vehicle screeched to a halt before it struck the pedestrian.

Car driver screeches to a halt after spotting wheelchair pedestrian
According to SG Road Vigilante (SGRV), the incident occurred late on Sunday (18 Oct) night, at around 12.30am.
Dashcam video showed the camcar waiting to make a right turn at the intersection of Canberra Road and Wellington Circle.
Although the cars had the right of way with the green light, a pedestrian in a motorised wheelchair rolled across the crossing.
A Toyota Sienta travelling straight ahead could be heard braking heavily from the left side of the camera car.
The vehicle then entered the dashcam’s frame, coming to an abrupt and sudden stop right before the pedestrian crossing.

At the same time, the man in the wheelchair also noticed the car and stopped.
After a short pause, the pedestrian rode in front of the stationary car and off the road.

Netizens praise car driver for braking in time to avoid hitting man in wheelchair
The sight of the pedestrian crossing “without a care in the world” shocked netizens.
One of them wrote that the uncle nearly went to the other side of the world, given the Toyota’s speed.
They added: “Please cherish your life, uncle!”

Another commenter praised the driver for their quick reaction, which saved both of them.

A third user commented that the man in the wheelchair was lucky that it wasn’t a heavy vehicle that would have much more trouble stopping.
