Woman chases police with butcher knife while he attempts to de-escalate
On 9 April, police officers in Thailand responded to a call about a woman undergoing a mental episode only to find themselves getting chased by the said individual who was armed with a butcher knife.
According to Channel 3 News, police in Samut Sakhon province responded to a call about a crazed woman at around 10.20pm.
When they arrived, they discovered the woman inside a building wielding a knife. Noting the state she was in, they called for back-up.
Police become target of frenzy
Clips of the incident circulating online showed the woman aggressively approaching the officers.
At one point, she can be seen pointing the butcher knife at one of the officers who was back pedaling to maintain distance from her.
The woman even chased the officers around their vehicle.

Successfully talked her down
Fortunately, after extended conversations, the woman agreed to stand down and police were able to de-escalate the situation safely.
The woman, who was identified to be in her 50s, had suffered some shallow cuts on her hand and was conveyed to the local hospital.

Her family would later reveal that the woman has a history of mental illness and is currently seeking treatment.
However, they claim she has never had an episode like this before.
After police questioned them for the cause of the frenzy, her family said that just prior to the episode, the woman had expressed a desire to go to a local temple to find something to eat.
However, when the family declined to take her, saying that they already had enough to eat at home, she started getting angry.
Police are not looking to escalate proceedings, saying that the woman is already seeking help for her mental illness.
However, they will be closely monitoring the situation to ensure it does not happen again.
