What some of you might not know is that Canberra MRT station is actually a BCA Green Mark Platinum holder.

According to a press release by Building Construction Authority (BCA), Canberra MRT station is the first to be awarded Green Mark Platinum.

Transport Minister Khaw Boon Wan said on 1 Nov that this MRT station is built with energy-efficient air-conditioning and lighting systems.

In addition, he also mentioned that “more than 17,000 households are within a 10-minute walk of the new station”. This, in turn, results in fewer cars needed, which then lowers carbon emissions.

Greener features help keep train fares affordable

Because the energy and lighting systems are energy-efficient, the station’s operational costs will also be lowered as a result, which Mr Khaw says will ultimately mean more affordable train fares.

So that’s like killing 2 birds with 1 stone — saving the environment and our wallets.
