New Canberra MRT Station Opens On 2 Nov
We trust many of you have already heard of the new Canberra MRT station opening to the public on 2 Nov 2019.
What some of you might not know is that Canberra MRT station is actually a BCA Green Mark Platinum holder.
Awarded with Green Mark Platinum
As our country inches towards a greener environment, the newest MRT station in Singapore is leading the way.
According to a press release by Building Construction Authority (BCA), Canberra MRT station is the first to be awarded Green Mark Platinum.
Transport Minister Khaw Boon Wan said on 1 Nov that this MRT station is built with energy-efficient air-conditioning and lighting systems.
In addition, he also mentioned that “more than 17,000 households are within a 10-minute walk of the new station”. This, in turn, results in fewer cars needed, which then lowers carbon emissions.
Greener features help keep train fares affordable
Because the energy and lighting systems are energy-efficient, the station’s operational costs will also be lowered as a result, which Mr Khaw says will ultimately mean more affordable train fares.
So that’s like killing 2 birds with 1 stone — saving the environment and our wallets.
Cheers to the opening of Canberra MRT station
That aside, Canberra residents, it’s your time to rejoice for the opening of this new train station.
