Canberra MRT Station Between Sembawang & Yishun Is Opening On 2 Nov
There’s good news for over 17,000 households living in Sembawang and Yishun — Canberra MRT is set to open on 2 Nov 2019.
Finally the missing link to the Sembawang-Yishun MRT puzzle is complete.
This also means that residents in the area no longer need to take feeder buses to Sembawang or Yishun MRT, now that Canberra station is just a stone’s throw away.
Journey to town 10 minutes shorter
Despite the announcement earlier this year, Land Transport Authority (LTA) has graciously reminded residents in the north that they can look forward to the station’s opening on 2 Nov.
They even made a cute infographic video announcing this in a Facebook post on Thursday (10 Oct).
Canberra station will make the trip to Orchard or Jurong East up to 10 minutes shorter, LTA had earlier informed Singaporeans.
Both Jurong East and Orchard will be just 10 stops away.
Here are some of the cool facilities that’ll be available at the station:
- A link bridge
- Sheltered walkways to bus stops
- More than 500 bicycle parking lots
Residents in the area will surely find travelling a lot more convenient with all the amenities in place.

Convenient commute for residents
As of May this year, Canberra MRT was 75% completed. Now, it will be ready to serve commuters in less than a month’s time.

The 1-day closure of the 5 stations during long weekends in May was definitely worth it, as Canberra residents can look forward to a lifetime of convenient commutes.
