Stevens MRT Air-Conditioned Underpass Opens On 23 Nov
If there’s something every Singaporean can agree on, it would be how hot and humid our country is.
Oftentimes, underpasses are a godsend, because it allows us to cross pathways without having to brave the harshness of Singapore’s tropical weather.
If your daily commute requires you to travel to Stevens MRT, there’s good news in store.
On 11 Nov, Land Transport Authority (LTA) announced that a new air-conditioned underpass will open at Stevens MRT (Downtown Line) on 23 Nov.
Stevens MRT underpass connected to SCGS & SJI
If you’re a student from Singapore Chinese Girls’ School (SCGS) or St Joseph’s Intitution (SJI), then this new underpass will serve you well.
According to LTA, the new 65m-long underpass connects you directly to Dunearn Road, hence providing a safer route since you won’t have to cross the road to school.
Bonus: You’ll be able to enjoy the air-conditioning too.
Additionally, this underpass connects commuters directly to Whitley Road, where you can get access to the Michelin-recommended Whitley Road Prawn Noodles.
You can also get direct access to Bukit Timah Road and Stevens Road from the underpass.
Fun fact: Underpass was built using Rectangular Tunnel Boring Machine
LTA also shared that this underpass was built using a Rectangular Tunnel Boring Machine (RTBM).
This construction method “maximised the utilisation of the tunnel space”, allowing building works to be completed smoothly.
The machine was first deployed in May 2016 to build an underpass at the upcoming Havelock MRT station, along Thomson-East Coast Line (Brown Line).
With that, we look forward to welcoming this new underpass on 23 Nov. Much thanks to LTA for constantly finding ways to improving connectivity within Singapore.
