LTA Suspends All ERP Charges Islandwide, But S’poreans Should Still Stay Home

ERP Charges Will Resume When Tightened Self-Distancing Measures Are Lifted

On Friday (3 Apr), the Singapore government introduced a series of tightened social distancing measures to combat the Coivd-19 outbreak.

One of these measures was the closing of all workplaces, except for those providing essential services and those in strategic economic sectors.

In light of this, the Land Transport Authority (LTA) announced on Saturday (4 Apr) that they will be suspending all ERP charges islandwide.

Despite the new announcement, Singaporeans are still encouraged to stay home during this critical period.

LTA suspends ERP charges islandwide likely due to lesser traffic

According to Transport Minister Khaw Boon Wan, the new suite of measures laid out yesterday (3 Apr) will likely lead to even less traffic on the roads.

As such, LTA will temporarily halt ERP charges starting next Monday (6 Apr).

The toll charges will return when the set of “elevated” safe distancing measures are over.

That said, Singaporeans are still advised to stay home during this time and significantly reduce their social activities.

Just earlier this week, LTA announced that ERP charges will be reduced at most gantries.

ERP Charges Reduced On Most Roads From 6 Apr, Because There’s Less Traffic Anyway

The ‘step-up’ announced today is likely reflective of the tightened set of measures and the reduction in road traffic that it will cause.

These are truly unprecedented times

The suspension might not come as a shock for many. But let’s bear in mind that this is probably the first time you’ve heard ERP charges being waived across the island.

This only highlights the fact that we’re truly living in unprecedented times.

At this vital juncture of the Covid-19 outbreak, lives cannot go on as per normal. We hope motorists will heed Minister Khaw’s advice and stay home as much as possible.

Together, we can overcome this outbreak as one united nation.
