Rescue workers ride sidecar motorcycle to deliver coffin during petrol crisis
Amid increasing fuel prices and shortages, a rescue unit in Kalasin Province, Thailand, relied on a sidecar motorcycle to deliver a coffin to a bereaved family.
Volunteer rescue workers now use sidecar motorcycles instead of larger vehicles to deliver coffins for the poor, ensuring that their charitable efforts continue despite rising petrol costs.
The change was implemented by the unit’s Nong Kung Si branch following the family’s request for a donated coffin to conduct traditional funeral rites, according to Channel 7.

Monk Sangkharak Kroekphon Sutadhammo (name transliterated from Thai), the head of Metta Dhamma Rescue Unit, explained that the decision was necessary due to the high fuel prices affecting operations.
“In this energy crisis, we must manage our limited budget efficiently. Rising fuel prices heavily impact larger vehicles, but death and public distress cannot wait,” he said.
Their core mission is to provide free coffins and funeral rites for families
The mission was part of the Trilaksana Project of the Metta Dhamma Rescue Unit.
The project provides free coffins and funeral rites for the poor and unclaimed bodies, alleviating the financial burden on grieving families.

Images of volunteers loading coffins into the modest sidecars have captured the hearts of locals.
Despite the vehicle’s smaller size, the volunteers’ dedication remains unchanged.
Committed to helping people despite difficult situations
Using the sidecars allows the rescue unit to continue its mission even as the country is facing economic difficulties.
No matter how difficult the circumstances get, the volunteers are dedicated to continuing to help those in need of assistance.
The unit’s 24/7 availability and dedication have earned them widespread respect in the community, showing that even in times of crisis, compassion prevails.
