Taiwan police officer killed after being hit by motorcyclist and run over by tour bus
A 28-year-old police officer in Taiwan died after a tragic chain collision left her run over by a tour bus in Tainan.
Officer Zheng Yong-xin (name transliterated), from the Tainan City Police Department, was reportedly on her way to visit a friend on her day off when the fatal accident occurred in the early morning of Tuesday (28 Apr).
Rear-ended by motorcyclist before falling into traffic
The incident took place along Section 2 of Anhe Road in Annan District, where Officer Zheng had stopped at a red light.
According to Liberty Times, a 20-year-old motorcyclist, surnamed Dai (name transliterated), crashed into the rear of her motorcycle, causing the officer to lose balance and fall onto the road.
She was thrown into the path of oncoming traffic, where a tour bus driven by a 40-year-old man, surnamed Jiang (name transliterated), was unable to stop in time and ran over her.

Officer pronounced dead at scene
Paramedics arrived at around 7am and attempted to render aid, but Officer Zheng was pronounced dead at the scene due to severe craniofacial injuries.
Preliminary investigations suggest the initial collision caused her to fall into the fast lane, leading to the fatal outcome.
Police also confirmed that the bus driver was not under the influence of alcohol.
Motorcyclist prioritised own vehicle over officer’s condition
According to reports, the motorcyclist is a university student in Tainan who had allegedly been out all night prior to the accident and was rushing back to her rental housing to prepare for class.
While fatigue is suspected to have contributed to the accident, this has not been confirmed by authorities.

Public outrage grew after surveillance footage showed the motorcyclist focusing on checking damage to her motorcycle instead of the officer’s condition.
Colleagues mourn officer who had plans to marry
Officer Zheng joined the police force through the 2021 Police Special Examination and had been serving with the Fourth Division since 2024.
Her colleagues have expressed shock and sorrow at her sudden passing.
Her boyfriend, who is also a police officer, said in a statement: “The perpetrator hasn’t offered a single word of apology, and her parents haven’t said anything either. I am so angry, yet so powerless.”

According to TVBS, the couple had been together for three years and had already discussed plans to get married.
Police to hold a fundraiser to assist family with funeral arrangements
The Tainan City Police Department plans to hold a fundraiser to assist Officer Zheng’s family with funeral arrangements.
Both the student and the bus driver are being investigated for Offences Against Public Safety and Negligent Homicide.
The authorities are in the process of determining legal liabilities accordingly.
