Singapore driver changes lanes to cut queue at JB Checkpoint, side-swipes oncoming motorcycle
On Monday (10 Aug), a Singapore-registered Mercedes collided with a motorcycle after the car changed lanes without signalling at the Johor Bahru (JB) checkpoint at around 6.06pm.
Footage of the incident captured by a dashcam from a nearby vehicle was later posted on the SG Road Vigilante Facebook page.
Mercedes queues up before suddenly changing lane
According to the video, a row of cars is seen queuing on the right lane intended for vehicles heading into the JB Checkpoint.
At the start, the Mercedes sedan was stationary, along with all the other vehicles in frame.

A motorcycle then passed by on the left lane, which was empty.

After the motorcycle headed off, the Mercedes opted to follow suit by suddenly accelerating and shifting its route onto the left-side lane.
However, the driver did not turn on their signal to indicate a lane change.

Motorcycle unable to stop in time, crashes into the side of Mercedes
As the Mercedes turned into the lane, a second motorcycle swooped in.
The rider was unable to stop in time and crashed into the side of the Mercedes.
The impact from the crash caused the motorcyclist to fall off their bike.

After the crash, both the driver and passenger exit the Mercedes car to check on the motorcyclist.

In the comments section, many netizens criticised the Mercedes driver.
One Facebook user wrote: “If you want to cut queue, please consider to check your rear mirror first.”
Another even suggested that the driver should not be attempting the move, as the left lane was not meant for cars.
