Malaysian man fined & jailed for exposing himself to 75-year-old woman
A man in Malaysia was sentenced to a month in jail and a RM2,500 (S$780) fine after he pleaded guilty to exposing his genitals to a 75-year-old woman.
According to the New Straits Times, the 30-year-old car wash worker exposed himself to the elderly woman on 31 July.
Lawyers sought for leniency
Muhammad Syahmi Mohad Md Jalel, a married man who has two children aged 1 and 4, was charged with “insulting a person’s modesty” for his crime.
During his sentencing, the prosecution argued for a harsher sentence — the maximum sentence of five years in jail in addition to a fine.
They said that this was necessary to deter the married man and others from committing similar acts.

On the other hand, the defence argued for leniency.
The man’s lawyer cited his family and financial situation, stating that he was supporting his wife and two kids on an income of only RM1,800 a month (~S$560).
Syahmi had also pleaded guilty, his lawyer said, which saved the court’s time.
The convicted man also apologised to the victim and promised not to repeat his crimes.
Man had exposed himself to another elderly woman
After hearing their arguments, the judge sentenced Syahmi to one month’s jail, starting from the day he was arrested, and a fine of RM2,500 (S$780).
If he fails to pay the fine, he faces an additional four months’ jail.
Syahmi also faces a separate but similar charge for exposing himself to another 71-year-old woman on 3 Aug. He pleaded not guilty in that instance.
For this, the prosecution initially offered bail of RM9,000 (S$2,800).
However, the court set his bail at RM3,000 (S$940) on the condition that he did not harass any of the witnesses or the victim.
The case will be mentioned again on 18 Sept.
