Man in Ultraman costume detained near stage during Malaysia’s National Day celebrations in Perak
Police detained a man dressed in an Ultraman costume after he was spotted behaving suspiciously near the main stage of the state-level National Day celebrations in Perak on Monday (31 Aug).
Perak police chief Comm Datuk Mohd Alwi Zainal Abidin said the man, believed to be in his 40s, was detained at around 5am after officers noticed him in a restricted area near the celebration venue.
Police arrested him over suspicious behaviour
Although the man did not cause any disturbance, police took precautionary action and detained him after finding his behaviour suspicious, The Star reports.

“He came here to watch the celebration this morning, but we found his behaviour suspicious and took swift action by detaining him first,” Comm Datuk Mohd Alwi said.
Checks later showed that the man had a psychiatric history. Police said he would be referred to Hospital Bahagia Ulu Kinta in Tanjung Rambutan for assessment and further action.
Event and security operation proceeded smoothly
The incident did not affect the National Day celebrations, which were held near the Ipoh Town Hall building and officiated by Sultan Perak Sultan Nazrin Muizzuddin Shah, with Raja Permaisuri Perak Tuanku Zara Salim also present.

Comm Datuk Mohd Alwi said security arrangements for the event proceeded smoothly.
525 police officers and personnel were deployed from early morning to manage security, traffic and crowd control.
“We deployed more personnel this year compared with last year. There were no worrying incidents, and everything was under control,” he said.
