Tuas checkpoint officer surprises driver with a pickup line
A Singaporean man was surprised when he received his first pickup line from a stranger at Tuas Checkpoint.
He shared more about the “funny encounter” with the female officer in a TikTok post on 6 Sept, which drew mixed reactions from netizens.

As several netizens accused the original poster of making up the story, he posted dashcam footage which captured the exchange the next day.
Officer jokes she can be man’s girlfriend
In the video, a woman can be heard asking the driver “Your girl?” a few times.
“What girl?” the confused driver clarified, to which she replied, “You know… where’s your girlfriend?”.

“Aiya, no girlfriend lah. So sad leh,” the driver answered.
“Okay lah. I be yours lah,” the woman then remarked, earning a laugh from the driver.

“No lah, just kidding okay?” she later said, to which the driver responded that she was “so smooth”.
Their lighthearted interaction quickly ended as the driver bade the woman goodbye and drove past the gantry.
Driver says pickup line made him laugh
Speaking to MS News, Nathaniel, a professional photographer and videographer, said he was leaving the Immigration & Checkpoints Authority (ICA) customs at around 11.45pm when he received the pickup line.
However, he declined to share the date of the interaction to protect the officer’s identity.
“I was confused at first by the questioning, but ended up having a laugh once I realised what was happening,” said Nathaniel.
Netizens suspect officer saw a hantu
Many netizens speculated that the officer had seen a ghostly passenger in the car with him but chose to play it off to avoid scaring the driver.

Nathaniel said the idea had occurred to him, but believes the officer would have asked for the woman’s passport if she indeed saw someone else in the car.
Additionally, Nathaniel explained that he only declared one passenger — himself — in his MyICA app QR code.
He also verbally stated this when he came up to the gantry to make the process faster and more efficient.
Addressing the paranormal speculations, Nathaniel added that the officer would have opted against prolonging the encounter if that was the case.
Instead, she chose to make jokes and small talk.
Man says he did not feel harrassed by officer’s pickup line
There were also comments questioning if the officer was being unprofessional and inappropriate.
To this, Nathaniel replied that it is not against the law to be friendly.
“I always make jokes with the ICA officers too,” he wrote in a reply to one commenter.

“I would not want the female officer to be reported to the ICA for making jokes or face any backlash, as I didn’t feel harassed in any way,” he told MS News.
However, he also acknowledged, “If it were a male officer making these jokes, it wouldn’t be acceptable as I’m sure other motorists would not feel comfortable as well”.
