US patient locked in examination room after staff clocked out, had to call police for help

In late September, a patient in the United States found herself locked inside a clinic after staff clocked out for the day, forgetting she was still inside.

The surreal experience forced her to call the police for assistance.

According to WMUR-TV, the woman would later receive an apology from the clinic, but decided she would most likely never visit them again.

At around 7.45pm, a staff member gave her a steroid shot before leaving the room, promising to return.

However, Ms Chandler was left unattended and the clinic closed for the night.

When she noticed something amiss, she left the exam room and found the only staff left were the cleaning crew. She tried to find medical staff, even popping into the offices only to find no one.

She “panicked a little” and texted her husband saying that the staff may have locked her in. When she tried to exit the clinic, she triggered the alarm, forcing her to call the police.

Clinic apologises for mishap

When later interviewed by a news crew, she said the experience was very shocking and not something she expected to happen in real life.

She said she would probably not use the clinic’s services again after this particular experience, despite her being a regular in the past.

She shared her story in the hope of preventing the same mistake from happening to others.

Meanwhile, the clinic publicly apologised for their mistake. “We have taken steps to ensure this won’t happen again,” they said in a statement to the media.
