Singaporeans reveal what’s become too expensive to keep buying here

Bubble tea and café drinks are among the things Singaporeans feel have become too expensive, with some opting not to buy them anymore.

OP reluctant to buy drinks during meals

In a Reddit thread posted on r/askSingapore on 13 Oct, the Original Poster (OP) asked: “What’s something in SG that’s become so expensive you’ve just stopped buying it?”

They said they had become reluctant to buy drinks during meals, citing a cup of iced lemon tea that cost S$4.50.

“Suddenly plain water sounds amazing,” added the OP.

They also pointed to café meals where a sandwich and drink could cost almost S$25.

“I know everything’s getting more expensive but there are certain things where I just cannot justify the price anymore,” the OP said.

They then asked what’s something fellow Redditors used to buy regularly but now look at the price and go “forget it”.

Netizens share what they have given up

The post quickly drew responses from netizens who shared how rising prices had changed their spending habits, particularly when it came to food and drinks.

A netizen shared that they have given up bubble tea as they can get a McDonald’s meal by just topping up S$2.
