Man charged for breaching restricted military zone

On Wednesday (Oct 28), 47-year-old Singaporean Quek Wee Teck was charged in court for allegedly sailing into a restricted military zone.

He reportedly steered a yacht into the restricted Southern Islands Live Firing Area twice — in December 2025 and in July 2026.

The area is a military zone used by the Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) for exercises.

As such, he faces two counts of violating the Military Manoeuvres (Firing Ground) Rules.

Man allegedly steered yacht into live firing area twice

In the first incident, Quek allegedly steered the yacht within the live firing area around 3pm on 19 Dec 2025, the charge sheets revealed.

He purportedly repeated this on 10 Jul 2026 at about 4.30pm to 5.10pm.

In both instances, he was using a Singapore-registered pleasure craft named Artemis 1.

Man intends to plead guilty

According to the Military Manoeuvres Act, no unauthorised person can enter or remain within firing grounds at any time.

Anyone found guilty of this offence will be penalised with a jail term of up to six months, a fine of up to S$2,000, or both.

Quek told the court that he plans to plead guilty. He also said he will not be engaging counsel.

According to CNA, he is set to plead guilty in December.

Man identified as CEO of yacht management firm

Online information reveals that Quek is a prominent figure in the Singapore maritime industry.

Quek, known as ‘Captain Q’, is the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Hydrogen Era Marine, a yacht management and maintenance firm.
