Under the partnership, both organisations are working towards a target of 300 inclusive hires by 2030 across SBS Transit and its partners supporting its operations.

They will identify suitable roles for PWDs and explore workplace adjustments, job redesign, and coaching support to help them succeed at work.

The collaboration will also provide more opportunities for students with disabilities to gain work experience and prepare for employment, including those from polytechnics and universities.

By 2030, SBS Transit aims to train up to 70% of its frontline staff to better assist PWDs, including those with invisible conditions.

The training will build on existing disability awareness programmes by introducing more practical, hands-on learning to help employees respond to different commuters’ needs.

Both organisations will also raise awareness of disability inclusion among commuters and the wider community.

This includes promoting SBS Transit’s Travel Buddy Programme, which provides route familiarisation and practical guidance to help PWDs navigate public transport more safely and confidently.

Meanwhile, through its Queen Bee initiative, SBS Transit will work with SG Enable to share good practices in inclusive hiring, workplace support, and service delivery with other organisations.

Helping commuters with disabilities travel confidently

SBS Transit Group CEO Jeffrey Sim highlighted the importance of giving everyone opportunities to contribute to society, both at work and in everyday life.

“With the right opportunities, support and understanding, people can continue to contribute, grow and make a difference,” he said in a SBS Transit Ltd Facebook post.

He added in the joint press release that building a more inclusive transport network starts with understanding the different needs of commuters.

By engaging with the disability community and better equipping staff to assist PWDs, SBS Transit hopes to make public transport more welcoming and accessible.

The operator also said it looks forward to creating more opportunities for PWDs to thrive at work and travel with greater confidence and independence.
