Boon Keng Police Post Fire Was Caused By “Disgruntled Man Unhappy With Perceived Social Inequality”
If you’ve been on social media over the past 12 hours, you must’ve seen footage and images of a fire happening outside the police post at Towner Road on Friday (13 Mar) night.
A 30-year-old man was detained following the incident — he was previously reported to be 31-years-old.
On Saturday (14 Mar) morning, the police issued another statement, revealing that the man had apparently set fire to a bag of clothes using petrol.
Preliminary investigations also found that the incident is not linked to terrorism.

According to the statement, the man in question had set fire to several bags of clothes using petrol/diesel outside Kallang Neighbourhood Police Post.

The police post is located at Block 105 along Towner Street, near Boon Keng MRT.
A 30-year-old man was detained by SPF officers at the scene, and no one was injured.
He was remanded for “further investigations” and the police plans on sending him for a psychiatric assessment.
Initial investigations find incident not linked to terrorism
While the man had scribbled the words “ISIS” on several pillars next to the police post, preliminary investigations found that he had acted alone and the incident “was not terrorism linked”.
Instead, the police described him as a “disgruntled person unhappy with perceived social inequality”.
This is consistent with some of the other graffitis he scribbled on the pillars, criticising the ruling government in Singapore.
Faces up to 7 years in jail and a fine
The 30-year-old man will be charged in court later today, for mischief by fire under Section 435 of the Penal Code.
If found guilty, he faces a jail sentence of up to 7 years and a fine.
We hope the man will be dealt with severely if he’s guilty of the crimes, to deter others from doing the same.
