Tower Transit Bus Driver Arrested Over Fatal Ang Mo Kio Accident On 20 Jun
Earlier this week, a fatal accident took place in Ang Mo Kio involving a 61-year-old victim. A taxi driver was subsequently arrested.
However, more information has since come to light about the tragedy. It turns out that the elderly victim was hit by several vehicles, and not just the taxi.
As investigations progressed, a Tower Transit bus driver was also arrested in connection with the accident. He wasn’t at the scene when the police arrived.
Tower Transit bus driver arrested for careless driving causing death in relation to AMK accident
According to a follow-up report by Lianhe Zaobao, a 53-year-old Tower Transit bus driver was arrested for reckless driving causing death in relation to the accident on Monday (20 Jun) night.
Initially, it was reported that only a Trans-Cab driver was arrested.
In contrast to earlier reports, The Straits Times (ST) reported on Wednesday (22 Jun) that “several vehicles” were involved in the accident.
As for how the accident played out, things were slightly more ambiguous.
On the one hand, ST reported that the police had yet to confirm which vehicle had hit the woman first. But on the other hand, Lianhe Zaobao stated in their report that they understood the woman was first struck by the Tower Transit bus as she crossed the road.
However, the driver reportedly left the scene and did not check on the victim. The 61-year-old was subsequently run over by two other vehicles and passed away at the scene.
Apart from the bus captain, two other drivers are also assisting the police with their investigations, including the Trans-Cab driver.
Notably, only the taxi driver was present when police officers were on the scene.
Tower Transit & Trans-Cab apologise for accident & offer condolences
Tower Transit has since issued a statement confirming the fatal accident on 20 Jun involving a bus plying the 169 route.
The spokesperson said the bus captain involved has been suspended and is assisting with police investigations.
In the meantime, Tower Transit took the opportunity to offer their apologies and condolences. They have also reached out to the victim’s family to provide assistance.
Similarly, a Trans-Cab spokesperson also offered their condolences to the deceased’s family, adding that the driver had reported the incident on Tuesday (21 Jun).
Hope investigations will clarify the case & hold those concerned liable
While the exact details of the accidents remain unclear, it’s puzzling, and to some extent troubling, that the bus driver was not at the scene when the police arrived.
Nonetheless, we hope the ongoing investigations will get to the bottom of the matter and bring some form of closure to the bereaved family.
MS News extends our condolences to the family of the deceased. May she rest in peace.
