28-Year-Old Domestic Helper Arrested By The Police, Owners Suspected Her But She Denied It
When quarrels escalate, it’s always better to calm yourself down, and avoid lashing out in anger, or you might do something you regret.
In this case, a poodle was the unfortunate victim, as it was allegedly thrown from the 3rd storey of a terrace house off Yio Chu Kang Road.
As it suffered serious injuries as a result of the act, the dog had to be euthanised.
A 28-year-old domestic helper was later arrested after the police found evidence that suggested she had thrown the dog down.
Dog was found lying motionless with a bloodied mouth
The incident happened on the morning of 13 May in a house on Sunrise Walk, reported Lianhe Zaobao.
Both its owners – a couple in their mid-thirties from Hong Kong identified only as Mr Xu and Ms Sha – were at home at that time.
At around 9am, the couple’s Indonesian domestic helper came rushing inside, claiming that the dog – named Dou Dou – was lying motionless in the front yard.
They found the 11-year-old poodle with a bloodied mouth.
Poodle sustained internal injuries, spine almost fractured
The couple immediately took their poodle to the vet, who diagnosed that it had sustained severe internal injuries, reported Zaobao.
The poodle’s spine was nearly fractured too, and it would be paralysed its whole life even if it survived.
Though the couple wanted to try save the dog as much as possible, they ultimately made the difficult decision to have Dou Dou euthanised in order not to prolong its suffering.
3 possible reasons for the injuries, domestic helper suspected
Mr Xu explained that the vet broke down 3 possible reasons for the dog’s injuries:
- Getting hit by a car
- Falling from height
- Beaten by someone
At that point, he said, the employers suspected the domestic helper, who had been working for the family for 6 months, but because she had denied it, nothing could be done.
Police found evidence on domestic helper’s phone
Then, a few days after the incident, she got into a disagreement with her employers over caring for their children, Zaobao reported.
It was so heated that the police were called to the home to neutralise the situation.
Upon investigation, they found something that was probably unexpected — evidence on the domestic helper’s phone that apparently showed that she had thrown the dog down.
She had allegedly thrown the poodle from the 3rd storey of the house, before pretending to be innocent in front of her employers.
She was arrested soon after.
The loss hit the dog’s owners hard, as it had been with them for 11 years — throughout their 7-year stay in South Korea for work, to their relocation to Singapore 1 year ago.
Be tolerant of animals
It’s heartbreaking to hear that a dearly loved pet lost its life in a painful death.
If the domestic helper is found to be responsible for the dog’s death, we hope that she will learn to not to take out her unhappiness on innocent animals again.
Animals are living creatures too, and deserve to be treated with care and respect. There’s absolutely no reason to be cruel to them.
