But if you’re a durian lover who’s more of an introvert, or enjoys being alone, having durian isn’t quite as straightforward.

Buying durians in the plastic-wrapped packs may be an alternative, but the taste wouldn’t be as refreshing.

Thankfully, there now seems to be a solution to your solo-durian woes.

7-Eleven stores in Malaysia recently started selling individually-packed durian mochi from Wall’s that are ideal for people experiencing durian cravings, but who may not finish the whole fruit by themselves.

Judging from pictures by Instagrammers, these mochis appear to have a powdery and chewy exterior.

Take a bite of it and your teeth will immediately sink into a rich and creamy yellow interior. That’s when the unmistakable scent and taste of the pungent fruit kicks in.

Unlike some mochis that use artificial durian flavourings, Walls’ durian mochi contains 100% durian purée, giving every bite a gao taste.

Since the mochi comes in individual packs, you know each serving will give you a perfectly fresh and cooling treat on a humid day.

Just S$1 per mochi

If that’s not enough to entice your taste buds, here’s more.

Each mochi apparently costs just S$1 (RM 3), around the same price you’d have to pay for a slab of durian ice cream.

For the same price, however, Wall’s Durian Mochi gives a way more authentic durian taste.

The mochi is available in 7-Eleven stores across Peninsular Malaysia – the part of Malaysia directly North of Singapore – but some reports claim they are already sold out at some locations.

Some Malaysians have apparently also found boxes containing 4 packets of the mochi at some stores, but we are unable to verify the location and price.

If you happen to be crossing the Causeway soon, this is one sweet treat that you should add to your list of must-makan.

Just remember to exercise constraint and not pop 10 of these in one go, ’cause the only thing you’re getting is a massive sore throat and a 5-day MC.
