EZ-Link Mahjong Tile Charm Lights Up When You Scan It, Get Extra Huat When You Commute

EZ-Link Releases Mahjong Tile Charm Ahead Of Chinese New Year 2024

Throughout the years, EZ-Link has added colour to our daily commute by coming up with various cards and charms.

Ahead of the upcoming Chinese New Year (CNY) season, they have done it again — this time with a mahjong tile charm.

The charm is modelled after a green mahjong tile, with the Chinese character for ‘get rich’ etched on it for extra ‘huat’.

However, it appears to be sold out at various vending machines already, which has prompted many Singaporeans to call for a restock.

In the opening scene, a mahjong player is seen lining up tiles on a table, with three of the charms propped up behind the actual tiles.

The player then throws out the three charms on the table, signifying a ‘winning combo’.

In the next scene, a person demonstrates how the EZ-Link charm works by tapping it on a reader at an MRT station gantry.

Upon doing so, the charm lights up, illuminating the word ‘huat’ engraved on it.

In a comment below the video, EZ-Link stated that the charm will be made available in stages at all EZ-Link vending machines for S$20.90.

It does not come with any load value.

Mahjong tile charm is valid for three years

Like other EZ-Link charms and wearables, the mahjong tile charm is valid for a total of three years from the date of encoding.

Users may keep track of their charm’s expiry date via the EZ-Link app.

You can tap it at all the same spots you use a typical EZ-Link card in, which includes trains, buses, taxis, and shops.

All in all, it is applicable at over 30,000 EZ-Link acceptance points islandwide.

Similarly, you can top the charm up at all the same channels. You can find a full list of channels and locations can here.

While the charm does not come with a warranty, users can call EZ-Link’s customer service hotline at 6496 8300 for assistance if they find it to be defective within six months of purchase.

Charm is allegedly already out of stock in many areas

Between the hike in GST and increasing electricity tariffs, 2024 is already shaping up to be a financially challenging one.

With that in mind, it’s no surprise that people would want to gather as much huat energy as they can.

That might explain why the mahjong tile charm is already unavailable in many areas, at least according to TikTok users.

As of Sunday (31 Dec 2023), the charm is apparently out of stock at vending machines in Tampines.

Over in the West, some TikTok users claimed they couldn’t get the charm at Westgate and Choa Chu Kang.

Others allegedly encountered similar problems at malls in the North-East like Waterway Point, and at Northpoint in Yishun.

With the charm gone so soon, many have since called on EZ-Link to restock the products.
