Food stall vendor allegedly tells customer to cancel order, 2 hours after it was placed

Food stall merchant allegedly tells customer to cancel order after 2-hour wait

On 21 July, a frustrated customer from Singapore posted on Reddit about a bad food delivery experience that morning, wondering if other people have faced similar issues.

The Original Poster (OP) shares that they ordered on GrabFood for them and their colleagues, a total of 8 people. Each of them ordered a bowl of noodles.

They confirmed the order at 7.20am, and the app said the order would arrive around 8.30am to 9am.

Food was ‘ready for pick-up around 9am, but no sign of driver

At 9am, the OP checked on the app for updates, which indicated that the food was “ready for pick-up”.

The app also says that a driver was assigned for the delivery.

However, there was no sign of the driver having actually picked up the order.

Stall owner tells customer to ‘cancel’ if they cannot wait

At 9.24am, after waiting about 20 minutes, the OP and their colleagues decided to check in with the driver since they were getting hungry.

However, the update did not provide a satisfying answer to their cravings.

At 9.38, the driver responds to them, replying in Mandarin. He relays to OP what the stall owner told him: “The merchant said he doesn’t want to take this order, and told [OP] to cancel it.”

“They said if you can wait, then wait; if you can’t wait, then just cancel.”

The merchant’s response frustrated the OP since they accepted a scheduled order despite never intending to make it.

In addition, the OP felt that the merchant tried to shift the responsibility onto the driver, as if the driver was the one who was late or refusing to pick up the order.

Netizens face similar issues as OP; they are told to report to Grab

From the netizens’ response, many have faced similar problems on GrabFood as well.

Many shared their bad experiences with other merchants, offering other food ordering apps as alternatives.
