Elderly food delivery rider politely declines good Samaritan’s offer to help with deliveries during downpour
An 81-year-old food delivery rider continued making deliveries in Punggol during a heavy downpour on 18 Sept.
This prompted a good Samaritan to offer her help after witnessing his efforts.
Elderly food delivery rider working during downpour
In a post shared on the Complaint Singapore Facebook group, the Original Poster (OP) said she had walked to Oasis Terraces at around 7pm to get dinner.
However, it suddenly started pouring heavily and she ended up being stuck there.
While waiting for her husband to pick her up, she noticed an elderly food delivery rider leaving Oasis Terraces to complete his orders.

According to the OP, the rider had carefully covered his food delivery boxes with raincoats, taking care to keep the food neat and dry.
Moved by what she saw, she offered to help him with the deliveries or drive him to the various locations.
Delivery rider politely declines kind offer
However, the elderly rider politely declined and told the OP that he could manage on his own. He reportedly had three deliveries to complete.
She later learned that the rider was 81-years-old and that “this is his last job”.
The brief encounter left the OP touched, particularly as the elderly rider continued on his way despite the difficult weather conditions.

In the post, she appealed to customers who might be waiting for their food that evening to be patient if their orders arrived later than expected.
“Please be patient and kind,” she said, explaining that the rider was doing his best to ensure the food reached customers safely despite the heavy rain.
Netizens touched by OP’s kind gesture
The post has since drawn attention to the kind offer by the OP, as well as the fact that the rider had to work despite his age.
A netizen felt sorry that the elderly rider was “still working at his age” and praised the OP for her kindness.
