Malaysian Entrepreneur Gives Domestic Helpers S$3,000 & Luxurious Getaway For Raya

Over the past few months, we’ve seen quite a number of heartwarming tales about domestic helpers getting rewarded generously by their employers.

The latest demonstration of an employer’s kindness comes from Malaysia, where three domestic helpers received RM10,000 (S$3,000) in Raya money and a luxurious getaway.

As they all hail from Indonesia, their employer, an entrepreneur, wanted to give them something that could help their families back home and soothe their homesickness all at once.

The lavish display has since gone viral on TikTok, with many netizens jokingly asking if she needs a new helper.

Employer transports helpers to getaway in Desaru via helicopter

In a video posted yesterday (13 Apr), entrepreneur Farah MJ shared how she rewarded her helpers for Ramadan month.

Titled ‘A Day In My Maids’ (Lives) (Ramadhan Edition)’, Ms Farah began by introducing viewers to the three helpers, who smiled and waved to the camera.

Following that, she gave them a massive ‘morning surprise’ by gifting them RM10,000 (S$3,000) each in Hari Raya money.

After that, Ms Farah showed them going on a helicopter ride. One of the helpers could be seen with Ms Farah’s daughter in her lap.

The entrepreneur then revealed that she was taking them to an island for a pre-Eid (Raya) getaway. The island turned out to be Desaru Beach in Johor.

Upon their arrival, Ms Farah’s helpers were seen taking in the views of what appeared to be a resort with her daughter in tow.

Furthermore, Ms Farah revealed that she booked a private suite for them as she took viewers on a tour of the palatial surroundings, which included a private pool.

The video then ended with the three helpers waving to the camera once again alongside Ms Farah’s son and daughter.

Employer gave helpers Raya money to send home to their families

In an interview with mStar, Ms Farah said that the getaway — which lasted three days and two nights — was her way of showing appreciation for her three helpers.

The 28-year-old import-export businesswoman also said she hoped the trip could help them relax and feel refreshed.

“The fasting month is a time when we tend to think of our families the most. Hence, I wanted to cure their homesickness with a getaway,” she explained.

As for the Raya money, she wanted to give them something they could send to their families back home in Indonesia.

Although it was not shown in the video, Ms Farah also gifted her helpers three sets of Raya outfits each.

She shared that their colours match those of her family’s ensembles so that they can all wear them together during Raya.

“They also got new shoes and will be following me to my hometown to celebrate Raya,” she added.

Ultimately, Ms Farah said that she thinks of them as her own family and wanted them to feel joy even if they cannot return to their own hometowns for Raya.

Netizens jokingly ask employer if she needs more helpers

The grand display of generosity sparked awe from the majority of netizens, with many jokingly asking Ms Farah where they can sign up to be her helper.

One netizen flat-out asked Farah if she needs another maid.

Another jokingly implied they were desperate to apply, saying that they would be happy to even clean her shoes.

Meanwhile, another viewer said it was good to see an employer treating their helpers properly, like fellow human beings.

On the other hand, some cast doubt on the authenticity of the gesture.

One netizen said the helpers could still be on duty since they still donned their uniforms in the video.

However, another netizen retorted that they were focusing on the wrong thing.

According to them, even their own helpers refuse to wear casual clothing as they are more comfortable in their work attire.

Respect & appreciate one another as human beings

At the end of the day, all humans experience the same emotions and have their own valid needs and wants.

As such, we should always respect and appreciate one another regardless of what our ‘station’ in life may be.

While it wouldn’t be fair to expect all employers to shower such gifts, we do hope this reminds them to continue treating their helpers with kindness and empathy.
