Group of hikers found safe after going missing on mountain
Six hikers were found safe on Monday (7 Sept) after going missing for days on Gunung Gerah, a mountain located between Perak and Kelantan in Malaysia.
The group included a family of four – a married couple and their two children aged 13 and nine. Two mountain guides were also with them.
They took part in the Trans Gerah expedition and entered through Pos Dakoh in Kelantan on 29 Aug, Free Malaysia Today reported.
They were scheduled to finish the hike at Pos Kemar in Perak on 3 Sept, but did not show up on the said date.
Rescuers spotted smoke signal
The hikers had last sent their relatives a message on the morning of 1 Sept.
They told them they were safe and that it had not rained for the past three days.
After not hearing from them for a few days, their relatives reported them missing in Selangor on 6 Sept.
During an aerial survey, search-and-rescue teams spotted a smoke signal in a remote area of the forest about an hour from Kem Kulim.

10 mountain guides from Perak and Kelantan then located the group at the camp, according to New Straits Times.
All hikers found, none injured
The guides escorted the hikers to Kampung Lelar, arriving at 8.45pm on Monday.
Subsequently, the group was taken to the health clinic in Pos Kemar for medical assessment.
“All six are in good condition and did not sustain any injuries,” said Gerik district police chief superintendent Abdul Samad Othman.
