Parent rushing to hospital to see sick child slams lane-hogging driver

A parent driving to his hospitalised child in Malaysia slammed another driver for allegedly hogging the lane in a Threads post on Tuesday (11 Aug).

The Original Poster (OP) also claimed that the other driver performed a brake check on him, then honked when he finally cut him off.

In dashcam footage posted by the OP, he is seen travelling in the rightmost lane at high speed, in a rush to reach his destination.

However, a white SUV in the same lane is travelling at a lower speed.

The SUV blocked the OP’s path for several seconds before the parent managed to cut him off from the left.

Parent rushed to hospital upon learning daughter’s condition

Later, the OP shared that his daughter had been hospitalised due to respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) and was weak, rejecting milk and food.

He also clarified that his daughter had been taken to the hospital via ambulance.

The OP said he had received a call about his daughter’s condition from her sitter, prompting him to rush to the hospital from his workplace.

He added that he understands the concern regarding drivers being reckless on the road.

However, he said he had been using turn signals to let others know that he wanted to overtake the white SUV.

Netizens condemn lane-hogging driver

Many netizens who commented on the post also criticised the driver of the white SUV.

One user said that while some drivers are just speeding in the right lane, they do not block their path as they never know the other driver’s real situation.

Another pointed out that the right lane is for overtaking, so the SUV driver should not have stayed there for long.

It doesn’t matter what the person behind you is doing. Is it work, is it an emergency, or is he just the type to drive fast?” they wrote.

It’s not our job to police their speed by blocking the lane.”

Translation: If you want to drive slow and steady, that’s totally fine, but if you see the car behind you coming faster, why is it so hard to move to the left when it’s safe? The right lane is for overtaking, not for maintaining speed indefinitely. It doesn’t matter what the person behind you is doing. Is it work, is it an emergency, or is he just the type to drive fast? It’s not our job to police their speed by blocking the lane.

One netizen also recounted how they were not able to see their mother before she passed away last year, allegedly due to someone hogging the lane.
