Colonel Sanders’ Nephew Allegedly Leaks KFC’s Top Secret Recipe

Kentucky Fried Chicken (KFC) is one of the most famous fast food chains in the world and their fried chicken recipe is top-secret information.

However, KFC founder Colonel Sanders’ nephew, Joe Ledington, may have recently leaked the famous “11 herbs and spices” recipe.

Or did he?

KFC, however, insists that the recipe shared by Ledington is not authentic.

According to the Chicago Tribune, Ledington shared a family scrapbook which contained the will of Claudia Sanders, Colonel Sanders’ wife.

On the back of the will were the precise measurements of 11 different spices written down in blue ink.

The ingredients are:

• 2/3 teaspoon of salt
• 1/2 teaspoon of thyme
• 1/2 teaspoon of basil
• 1/3 teaspoon of oregano
• 1 teaspoon of black pepper
• 1 teaspoon of dried mustard
• 4 teaspoons of paprika
• 2 teaspoons of garlic salt
• 1 teaspoon of ground ginger
• 3 teaspoons of white pepper

While Ledington admitted that he is unclear whether this is the actual recipe, he believes that the most important ingredient is probably white pepper.

“I call that the secret ingredient. Nobody (in the 1950s) knew what white pepper was. Nobody knew how to use it,” he explained.

The Chicago Tribune even decided to recreate the recipe to see if it would taste like the original.

The news outlet confirmed that the flavours were truly spot on.

KFC claims the leaked recipe is fake

However, the fast food company later released a statement highlighting that this leaked recipe from Ledington is not authentic.

According to the Daily Mail, KFC says that Colonel Sanders’ original handwritten recipe from 1940 “is locked up in a digital safe that’s encased in two feet of concrete”.

It’s also “monitored 24 hours a day by a video and motion detection surveillance system”.

Well, whether the recipe is real or not, it seems that the leaked recipe for the famous fried chicken still sounds just as delicious as the original.
