S’pore Man Who Raped 3 Daughters Deemed Unfit For Caning, Gets Extra 10 Months’ Jail

Singapore Man Who Raped 3 Daughters Deemed Medically Unfit For Caning

The court previously sentenced a man who raped and sexually assaulted four of his daughters over a 14-year period to over 33 years’ jail and 24 strokes of the cane. However, a recent hearing saw the man deemed unfit for caning.

The rapist suffered from a mild congestive heart failure, as such making him medically unfit for caning.

Instead, the court gave him an additional 10 months’ jail on top of his existing 33 years and 2 months sentence.

The man previously sexually abused his daughters and physically abused his wife and son, among other acts.

Man raped three daughters and sexually abused a fourth

The 45-year-old father raped three of his daughters and sexually abused a fourth over 14 years.

He first began molesting his then 7-year-old eldest daughter in 2004. He continued the physical and sexual abuse between 2010 and 2012 before raping her in 2018.

The rapist also continuously sexually assaulted three other daughters, raping two of them until 2018. The court determined that he premeditated the abuse, as he made efforts to separate his daughters from their family.

In addition, the man physically assaulted his wife and young son on several occasions.

The daughters reported the case to the police in Nov 2018, causing their father’s arrest. He pleaded guilty to seven charges including aggravated rape, molestation, and sexual assault.

The judge called it one of the worst cases of rape and sexual assault he had seen. He handed out a sentence of 33 years and two months’ jail, alongside the maximum 24 strokes of the cane.

Deemed unfit for caning

The defendant previously appealed for a shorter jail term, arguing over “unclear” evidence and hoping to perform a “mini-pilgrimage”.

Subsequently, the court dismissed the appeal in Sep 2022, reported Channel NewsAsia (CNA).

A recent hearing saw the High Court deem the 45-year-old permanently unfit for caning. He suffered from a “mild congestive heart failure”.

The prosecution sought an additional 12 months’ jail to replace the 24 strokes of the cane. They pointed to the gravity of the crimes and the statements from the man’s traumatised daughters.

One of them woke up crying in the middle of the night often, while three of the victims distrusted men out of fear of abuse.

Eventually, the court sentenced him to an additional 10 months’ jail, on top of his pre-existing term of 33 years and 2 months.
