Teens Catch Giant Fish At Merlion Park, Netizens Say It’s The Merlion

Giant Fish At Merlion Park

The waters off Singapore are known for their rich marine life. But a viral video making the rounds this week shows just how wild our waters are.

In the video, 2teenagers fishing near Merlion Park caught a fish that appears to be at least 45cm long. Netizens have quickly dubbed the fish “a baby Merlion”.

The teen’s antics were caught on tape by a tourist, who later uploaded the video on social media. She is audibly shocked by the size of the fish, as well as the finesse with which the teen grabs the fish out of the water.

Online responses to the video are best summed up in this comment:

Don’t head to Merlion Park to catch your own “baby Merlion” though. Fishing in the spot is illegal, according to PUB. Violate this rule and you may have to pay up to $3,000 in fines.

And just in case it wasn’t clear, the Merlion is a mythical creature that doesn’t exist.
