On Tuesday morning (12 Apr), a man set off two smoke grenades and fired a Glock 9mm handgun 33 times in a subway car on New York’s Manhattan-bound N train.

Videos and photos show terrified passengers fleeing as smoke pours out of the train. Some are also seen lying on a bloodied floor as others surround them to help.

CNN reports that the bullets struck 10 people. At least 13 others were hurt due to smoke inhalation, falls, or panic attacks.

Police identify person of interest

In the latest update, the New York City Police Department (NYPD) has named a “person of interest” in the shooting.

According to NBC News, authorities are searching for 62-year-old Frank R James.

James is believed to have rented a U-Haul van that is suspected of being connected to the attack after its keys were found at the scene.

Police are offering a S$68,000 (US$50,000) reward for information leading to James’ whereabouts, Newsweek reports.

However, they clarified that they have not named James a suspect and simply want to determine whether he witnessed the assault.

The suspect, who remains at large, is described as a Black male about 5 feet 5 inches (165cm) tall and weighs 175 to 200 pounds (79kg to 91kg). He was wearing a grey hooded sweatshirt and construction vest at the time of the shooting.

We wish the victims a speedy recovery

Unfortunately, such senseless attacks have been on the rise in the United States.

However, it’s a relief to hear that there were no fatalities in this incident and that the victims are in stable condition.

We hope that the authorities manage to track down the perpetrator soon so that they can bring him to justice and prevent him from causing any more harm.

MS News wishes the victims a speedy recovery.
