Twitter Employees Reportedly Told Via Email To Vacate Premises
Twitter has made countless headlines in recent months since Elon Musk took the helm at the company.
On Wednesday (11 Jan), Twitter Singapore employees were informed via email to clear their desks and vacate the office by 5pm.
They were asked to resume their work remotely from Thursday, reported Bloomberg.
The Singapore Twitter office at CapitaGreen also serves as Twitter’s Asia-Pacific headquarters.
Twitter instructs employees to leave Singapore office
On Thursday (12 Jan), employees received instructions from Twitter to vacate the Twitter Singapore office at CapitaGreen along Market Street.
A Twitter employee told Bloomberg that Singapore-based staff have been reassigned as remote workers in Twitter’s internal system until further notice.
When asked for comment, Twitter representatives did not immediately respond.
MS News visited the CapitaGreen building and understands that the office is still open.
Real estate holding company CapitaLand owns CapitaGreen.
Speaking to MS News, a CapitaLand spokesperson said Twitter has been a tenant of CapitaGreen since 2015, and it remains a tenant of CapitaGreen.
Rumours that Twitter employees were walked out of office
In the early hours of Thursday (12 Jan), rumours swirled after American technology journalist Casey Newton tweeted that Twitter employees were “walked out” of the Singapore office.
Business Insider tech reporter Kali Hays later tweeted that the rent for Twitter’s Singapore office was overdue and the company was evicted.

However, shortly after, Singapore-based Senior BBC journalist Peter Hoskins refuted these claims.
He cited a source that said Twitter’s Singapore employees had been working from home.
According to him, the building reception claimed that Twitter’s office is still open. However, they could not gain access to the floor to confirm it.
Business Insider reported that Mr Musk paid the past due rent for the Singapore office early on Thursday (12 Jan), Singapore time.
Employees who had to leave the office during the work day said they received instructions to return to work.
Dozens of Twitter international offices closing
Singapore serves as Twitter’s Asia-Pacific headquarters. The region was hit hard by job cuts since Mr Musk took over Twitter.
According to Business Insider’s Kali Hays, Twitter is closing or getting evicted from many international offices.
This is apparently due to Elon Musk’s dramatic shrinking of operations and alleged skipping of rental payments.
At least a dozen international offices have reportedly shut, with more possibly closing in the coming weeks.
Some of these offices include those in Hong Kong, the Philippines, Mexico, and Africa.
These closures will also likely lead to a few hundred more Twitter employees losing their jobs.
Since Mr Musk took over two months ago, thousands have already been left the company through layoffs or by choice.
